This is a small size decorative silver vinaigrette with all over decoration. The decoration on the top is an intricate Acanthus pattern of typical scrolls which centres around a small ribbon shaped cartouche which is unengraved. The back is also engraved with the same Acanthus pattern and the sides are much plainer but still, unusually, have a pattern. There is a hoop and ring on one end of this vinaigrette which is original and is not an addition - this would have been attached to a Chatelaine, hence its small size. The vinaigrette opens to reveal a grille that also has an Acanthus pattern engraving, and a gilded interior. A lovely example of a miniature silver vinaigrette. This is a quality item by a renowned Silversmith of the period.
Assay Office: Birmingham

Condition -
Excellent with only tiny dent to the back otherwise free from dinks, splits, damage or repairs. There are very minor marks due to age and use but these are commensurate with age and light use. The decoration is still clean and crisp and is not rubbed. The hinges are all good and in working order and the box itself opens and closes well. The inner gilding is in very good condition with very minor rubbing again consistent with age. The hallmarks are good with a small amount of rubbing but are clear and legible. There is a very small gap across the front when the box is closed.
