An exceptional quality hallmarked silver cheroot case by Nathaniel Mills.  This case is exquisitely decorated in an all over engraved decoration of scrolls and leaves.  The curved shape and the size make this a really tactile piece.  There is a cartouche to the lid which bears the Garter Insignia of the "House Of Douglas".  The decoration is really crisp and still sharp with no wear.  The lid pulls away from the base revealing the hallmarks which are clear.  This is an unusual piece of silver from this quality silversmith who was well established and one of the most renowned silversmiths for boxes, cases, vinaigrettes and card cases.  Amongst the highest quality examples of Nathaniel Mills' workmanship, also with the highest provenance of being previously owned by a member of Scots' Clan Douglas.  This is of real collector quality, a truly exceptional piece of silver.
