An unusual George III solid silver snuff box with all over Greek Key design and integral hinge. This is a box shape with slightly rounded edges and corners. It is a great shape and size. The snuff box opens to reveal a gilded interior and it is hallmarked inside the lid. A lovely piece of George III silver.
Assay Office: Birmingham
Maker: Matthew Linwood
Date: 1804
Condition -
This silver snuff box is in good condition, the corners have suffered tiny knocks over time but these are minor and commensurate with general use - see pictures. There are some minor surface marks due to age and use which are commensurate with age and use. The box closes with a slight gap caused by use and age - see pictures. The hinge is tight and solid. The gilding just shows the usual darkened areas which occur over time. The decoration is good for the age of the box and generally very good with just light loss to depth with time, polishing and use, this is more evident on the bottom and far less so on the top, but considering it’s age this is not detrimental to the overall appearance and quality of the box. This is a lovely item that has been well loved but also well looked after and cherished.
